Purpose: This study intends to explore the effect and possible mec hanism of long-term use of foam roller exercises as auxiliary exercises on young foot ball players by observing the changes in sports performance and injury risk indicators of young football players.Method: 20 high school youth football players were randomly divided into a cont rol group(C,n = 10)and a foam roller group(R,n = 10).The R group received 12 weeks of foam roller practice intervention,and the C group did not intervene.Bot h groups were tested for exercise capacity,injury risk indicators and pain indicators b efore and after the intervention.Sports performance indicators include: 60-second pushups,60-second abdominal curls,vertical jump,standing long jump,kneeling throwing medicine ball,10-yard sprint,20-meter sprint,5-10-5 test,Illinois test,300-yard run,o ne-leg wall-sit endurance test,seated forward flexion.Injury risk indicators include: Fu nctional Movement Screening(FMS)and Y Balance test.Pain indicators include: the visual analogue scale(VAS)of pain at the most painful points in each part of the foa m roller exercise.Results:(1)Before intervention,there was no significant difference in exercise abi lity,injury risk index and pain index between group C and group R(P> 0.05);(2)A fter 12 weeks of foam roller exercise,in terms of exercise capacity: The performance of group R seated forward flexion and standing long jump was significantly higher th an that of group C(P <0.05),and the interaction between the two indexes of seated f orward flexion and standing long jump performance and time was significant(P <0.05),group R The results have a more obvious upward trend.60-second push-ups,60-se cond abdominal curls,vertical jump,kneeling throwing medicine ball,10-yard sprint,20-meter sprint,5-10-5 test,Illinois test,300-yard run and one-leg wall-sit endurance test there was no significant difference between the groups(P> 0.05),and the interactio n between grouping and time was not significant(P> 0.05);(3)After 12 weeks of fo am roller practice,in the FMS test: total score of FMS and hurdle in group R,Shou lder flexibility,lunges,push-up,and trunk rotation stability were not significantly diffe rent from group C(P> 0.05),and the interaction between grouping and time was not significant(P> 0.05).However,the squat and straight leg elevation indicators of group R were significantly higher than those of group C(P <0.05),and the interaction bet ween grouping and time was significant(P <0.05),and the score of group R had a m ore obvious upward trend;(4)After 12 weeks of foam roller practice,in the Y balan ce test: there was no significant difference between the indicators of the R group in t he Y balance test and the C group(P> 0.05).However,the scores of the R group in all directions were significantly higher than before the experiment(P <0.05),and the scores of the C group in all directions were not significantly changed(P> 0.05).The interaction between the scores in all directions and time was all significantly(P <0.05),the score of group R in all directions has a more obvious upward trend.Except f or the score indicators in all directions,the interaction between the grouping and time of other indicators in the Y balance test is not significant(P> 0.05);(5)After 12 w eeks of foam roller practice,in terms of pain indicators: R the VAS score of each pa rt of the group was significantly lower than that of the C group(P <0.05),and the in teraction between the grouping and time of the VAS score of each part was significan t(P <0.05),and the VAS score of each part of the R group had a more significant d ecrease trend.Research conclusions:(1)The 12-week foam roller exercise has a positive effect on the improvement of young football players' athletic ability,which is mainly reflecte d in the improvement of two indicators such as the seated forward flexion that repres ents the flexible quality and the standing long jump that represents the strength qualit y;(2)The 12-week foam roller exercise has a positive impact on the injury risk indic ators of young football players,mainly reflected in the improvement of the squat and straight leg elevation indicators in the FMS test,and the improvement of the scores in all directions in the Y balance test;(3)The 12-week foam roller exercise reduces the pain perception input of the fascia system and improves the state of the fascia tissue.This may be a long-term foam roller exercise has a positive effect on the sports perf ormance and injury risk indicators of young athletes one of the reasons.
