History is an important humanities subject,bearing the important task of cultivating students’ moral,ideological and cultural qualities,and is an important subject to promote the all-round development of students.As an important part of textbooks,history textbook exercises are an indispensable and important factor in teachers’ teaching,and are also important auxiliary materials in students’ history learning,which shouldering the role of tutoring students to learn new knowledge and reviewing and consolidating old knowledge.All kinds of exercises in history textbooks are accompanied by the whole process of middle school students’ history learning,which plays an important role in the cultivation of students’ historical thinking ability and innovative ability,and also helps to improve students’ historical and cultural literacy.Therefore,it is particularly important to design and study the exercises of history textbooks.This paper takes the two editions of British middle school history textbook,Cambridge edition of 20 th Century Textbook(The 20 th Century Coursebook)2018 and Hodder edition of Understanding Modern History(Understanding the Modern World)2016 as examples to study the compilation of exercises in British middle school history textbooks.The stone of other mountains can attack jade,in order to broaden some research horizons for the compilation and development of exercises in middle school history textbooks in China.This paper mainly takes the exercises in the two editions of British history textbooks as the research object,first briefly introduces the students’ learning requirements in the current British history curriculum standards and the content framework of the two editions of history textbooks.Then it focuses on the questions presented in the two editions of history textbooks,and analyzes them with specific examples,and summarizes the functions and characteristics of the exercises in the two editions of history textbooks.This paper also compares the question type design and examination target of the two edition history textbooks in England and the whole edition of junior middle school history textbooks in China,and finally expounds the enlightenment and deficiency of the exercise design of British history textbooks.Through the collation and analysis of the collected data,the domestic literature devoted to the study of English middle school history textbook exercises has not been seen,which is also an innovation of this paper.
