A Study On The Growth Effect Of Chinese Manufacturing Export Technical Content

Reform and opening up for the rapid development of China’s economy has brought great benefits,which not only stimulated the export of China’s manufacturing industry,but also made tremendous contributions to the global economic and social development.For a country’s economic development,the key lies not in "how much"it exports,but "what" it exports,exports to "whom" and "how much" in its exports."Low tech" and "low added value" have been the labels of our manufacturing industry for a long time.So how Chinese export manufacturing technical content exactly changes?How these changes affect economic growth?These questions are worth studying.At first,this thesis use Hausmann,etc.(2005)research methods,on the basis of 2006-2014 China industrial economic statistical yearbook and China statistical yearbook data measured Chinese manufacturing export technical content from 2005 to 2013:On the industry level we compute the industry export technical complexity index,On the provincial level we compute the provincial export technical complexity.The results show that:On the industry level,both the top 5 and the last 5 do not have big change.The industry export technical content polarized.The export technical complexity index of labor-intensive industry and capital-intensive industry are less than the value of the entire manufacturing industry,while the export technical complexity index of technology-intensive industry is higher than the value of the entire manufacturing industry.The proportion of capital-intensive industry is increasing while the proportion of technology-intensive industry is decreasing.On the provincial level,both the top 10 and the last 10 are rotating.The provincial export technical content gradually formed a balanced distribution pattern.The export technical complexity of West region and Northeast region are less than the value of the national region,while the East region and Central region are higher than the value of the national region.The proportion of Central and West region is increasing while the proportion of East region is decreasing.As we get the industry export technical complexity index and the provincial export technical complexity,we can make a study of how they change economic growth.The empirical shows that:On the industry level,the increase of capital-intensive industry export technical content has made the largest contribution to the promotion of economic growth,followed by the labor-intensive industry,the last is the technology-intensive industry.On the provincial level,the increase of export technical content in West region has made the largest contribution to the promotion of economic growth,the second is the Northeast,again is the Central region,the last is the Eastern region.
