With the accelerating of economic globalization and market integration,the market competition becomes increasingly fiercer.If enterprises want to survive in the fierce competition,it must improve the ability of innovation,to develop new products,new technologies and new services to master the core technology,which will obtain sustainable competitive advantage.Innovation has become the theme of the new study in the world.The improvement of innovation performance is the fundamental driving force for enterprises to achieve long-term and stable profits.Therefore,the influencing factors of corporate innovation performance have become a hot research topic both at home and abroad.The right of CEO has two different models in the company,the chairman and CEO is one individual or two individuals.This paper tries to start from the upper echelon theory,to reveal the relationship between CEO characteristics and innovation performance,and analysis the model of separation of two staff,chairman of CEO,to obtain the regulation on innovation performance.Based on all GEM listed companies from 2013 to 2016,this paper studies the impact of CEO characteristics on enterprise innovation performance,and analyzes the moderating role of CEO chairman's two job separation.The characteristics of enterprise CEO are divided into 4 dimensions: gender,age,education level,and tenure.Based on the data,we analyze the relationship between the 4 indicators of CEO characteristics and the average indicators of the patent application volume,and analyze the moderating role of CEO chairman's two duty separation mode on the enterprise's innovation performance.The results show that the CEO women tend to improve the enterprise's innovation performance,female managers are more willing to adopt democratic and participatory management style,willing to change,thus more likely to strengthen the independent innovation to promote the innovation ability of enterprise independent investment increased;CEO age has no significant influence on enterprise innovation performance,young people are more willing to adventure,stronger sense of innovation;there is a significant positive correlation between CEO tenure and firm innovation performance,with the extended term,the term CEO has positive effect on innovation performance;enterprise performance is positively related to rehabilitation and CEO education.This paper finally summarizes the impact of CEO characteristics on the performance of enterprise innovation.Based on the conclusions of this paper,we want to improve the innovation ability of the companies.We can provide some feasible suggestions through the results of this research.We can provide a new idea and theoretical reference for enterprises in the selection and appointment of CEO.The companies can pay attention to the role of CEO in regulation of the separation of two staff,which can improve the innovation performance of the enterprises and the enterprises will realize long-term stable profit.
