David Harvey's Theory Of Space Criticize

On the basis of Lefebvre's social space theory,David Harvey,the promoter of the space shift of critical theory in western society during the 1970 s and 1980 s,devotes himself to reveal the political and economic roots of capitalism in the context of globalization by means of deprivation accumulation,spatiotemporal compression,unbalanced geographical development and other conceptual tools.This paper sets out from the research status of David Harvey at home and abroad and explains the theoretical and practical significance of his thoughts.Besides,the paper sorts out all of his spatial thoughts and theories and makes an objective evaluation of his ideological system.Elucidating David Harvey's theoretical framework is perceived as the core of the paper:The first part mainly expounds the social and historical background of David Harvey's space critical theory,namely the new changes brought by capital accumulation and space construction in the era of globalization.On the basis of describing the new phenomenon of capitalist space,the paper lays a foundation for analyzing the internal production mechanism of contemporary capitalism.The second part puts forward the principle of the spatial production mechanism of capitalism,which is precisely the essence that capitalism has the ability to avoid periodic crises time and again.Firstly,based on the original accumulation of Marx's political economy,Harvey restored the basic process of space production in contemporary capitalism.Secondly,He proposed two approaches,namely deprivation accumulation and time-space restoration mechanism to solve capital accumulation,which are the underlying impetus for capitalism to remain unimpeded.Finally,Harvey argued that these spatial production methods could not fundamentally eliminate the contradictions of capitalism,so the cyclical crisis of capitalism would not be completely ended.In the third part,Harvey begins to explain his utopian concept with the future development trend or the outlet of capitalism after criticizing that the current capitalism uses space to alleviate the new problems brought by the crisis.First of all,the two utopian forms summarized by Harvey are expounded theoretically and practically.On this basis,the relevant theories of Harvey's dialectical utopia of space and time are summarized.At length,Harvey's social alternative plan is discussed in detail.Throughout the ideological system of Harvey's space theory,we will find that he always unwaveringly combines his ideology with Marxism to develop a critical power adapted to contemporary reality.Although Harvey's theory was immature in some ways,his contemporary capitalist theory of space production still provides us with inexhaustible ideological and spiritual wealth on the whole.
