Research On The Development Of Industrial Heritage Tourism In Tianjin

As a form of characteristic industrial tourism and heritage tourism,industrial heritage tourism flourished in Germany and England.In China,however,its development lacked balance from place to place.At the present stage,China’s economy enjoys fast growth;yet the conflict between the protection of industrial heritage and urban transformation continues to deepen with every passing day.The transformation of any city worldwide have to take into full consideration the exploration of the existing tourism resources of the respective cities.In the practice thereof,they had to make a decision on how the industrial buildings are to be treated — “demolish them or implement a protective development”.As an important cosmopolitan city in north China,Tianjin has formed its unique cultural background and urban layout during the agglomeration and expansion of modern cities.Analysis of Tianjin’s industries revealed that most of its historical memories could be found in the laborers’ living quarters and the industrial heritage of the industrial enterprises.Supported by the history of the old industrial base that has experienced cultural transitions and entrepreneurial development,the city boasted high tourism development value.This paper first explained and defined the relevant concepts of industrial heritage tourism,introduced related findings published at home and abroad,and analyzed the characteristics of industrial heritage tourism in Tianjin.With the market of industrial heritage tourism in Tianjin as the main research object,the author discussed the characteristics of such a market and its development status,thus revealing the problems that occurred during the market development processFollowing the above discussion,using the method of survey research and literature review,the author studied the market of industrial heritage tourism in Tianjin and the tourists’ demands.After handing out the questionnaires,as well as the data processing and regression analysis on the factors based on the valid questionnaires collected,the characteristics of tourists in the market of industrial heritage tourism in Tianjin were analyzed.Then,on the basis of the characteristics of industrial heritage tourism and the actual situations in Tianjin,the author further studied the development mode of industrial heritage tourism in Tianjin by addressing the existing problems,from which a number of development approaches and strategic suggestions were proposed.It was eventually concluded that,since the value of the industrial heritage has generated tourists’ traveling intention,which may have differed from tourist to tourist,the city should design tour routes of different themes targeting different market groups.To pursue the protective development of industrial heritage in Tianjin with tourism planning as the fundamental starting point,and to build a tourism brand that goes with the theme of “Tianjin — the birthplace of China’s modern industry”;since festivities can stimulate the generation of traveling intention,the city could promote the development of industrial heritage tourism through such events.With the industrial heritage tourism-related festivals on May Day(also referred to as Labor Day and International Workers’ Day)and other celebratory occasions and holidays,the city may expand the functions of industrial heritage,open up more entertainment programs,and thus enhance the public awareness and recognition towards the industrial heritage.
