Scientific researchers are the core elements of the national innovation system construction and play a pivotal role in China's innovative country construction.The intensification of scientific and technological innovation competition among countries and the demand of social innovation put forward higher requirements for the innovation practice of scientific researchers in our country,which makes them face increasing work stress.From the reality of Chinese scientific researchers engaged in scientific research activities,the number of scientific researchers is rising,the number of papers published in the top international journals and patent applications is growing rapidly,and many key technology research and development has been in the forefront of the world.High levels of work stress seems to encourage scientific researchers to increase the capacity of scientific and technological innovation and innovation output.However,it is accompanied by frequent academic misconduct,and the high mental burden makes many scientific researchers suffer from mental and physical diseases,which hinders their innovative practices.At present,there is still a big controversy about the research results of work stress and individual innovative behavior in the academic circles,and the existing research mainly focuses on the enterprise field,while the discussion on individual innovative behavior in the field of public administration is still lacking,and a mature framework has not been formed.Based on the theory of cognitive interaction and from the perspective of two-dimensional structure of work stress,this paper discusses the intrinsic connection and mechanism of the challenge and hindrance stress,goal orientation,and innovative behavior of scientific researchers.Through the investigation and empirical analysis of 273 scientific researchers in China,the results of this paper indicate that a positive relationship exists between challenge stress and innovative behavior of scientific researchers,while hindrance stress has significant negative effect on innovative behavior of scientific researchers;learning goal orientation has a significant moderating effect on the relationship between challenge-hindrance stress and innovative behavior of scientific researchers;proving goal orientation and avoiding goal orientation have significant moderating effect on the relationship between challenge stress and innovative behavior of scientific researchers.This paper discusses the impact of different nature of work stress on innovative behavior of scientific researchers under the Chinese context,which enriches the theoretical research on individual innovative behavior.On this basis,we provide some suggestions for stimulating the innovative behavior of scientific researchers,which may provide some references for building high-quality innovative research teams.
