Research On The Influence Of Planting Structure Adjustment On Farmers' Income

It has been 5 years since Suijiang County promoted loquat planting project in 2013.Then what is the situation of farmers' participation in loquat planting there? What factors affect farmers' participation in loquat planting? Has the income of farmers involved in the cultivation increased,and how much has it increased? Through the combing of the existing literatures about adjusting behavior of planting structure(loquat planting)and its effect,I find that there is no scholar has quantitatively evaluated the effect of loquat planting.So this paper,using the(PSM)method,tend to study the behavior of farmers who participated in the cultivation of loquat and its influence on farmers' income,taking 388 loquat growers and non-loquat growers in Suijiang County,Yunnan Province as an example.In order to solve the above problems,this paper mainly includes the following specific aspects:(1)We divide the samples into loquat planting participation group and non-participating group,and analyze the key factors(personal characteristics and family management characteristics)affecting the loquat planting participation behavior,which will lay the foundation for the later empirical research.(2)Based on the theory of peasant household behavior,we use the Logistic model,empirically study the internal influence mechanism and action direction of individual characteristics and family management characteristics to the participation of farmers in loquat planting.(3)By building an average treatment effect model,we use the propensity score matching(PSM)method,effectively control sample selection bias,and quantitatively analyze the impact of planting loquat on Farmers' income.After the above main contents are studied,the main conclusions of this paper are formed as follows:(1)Overall,farmers' participation rate in loquat planting is not high.There are only 48.97% of the farmers are involved in loquat planting.Besides,the farmers in the study area are older and the education level is generally below junior high school so that most of them tend to hedge risk.In addition,most loquat planting scale is small and most of the cultivated land is not as fertile as needed.Moreover,farmers' cognition of loquat planting is not high and they rarely exchange necessary information with others.They pay more attention to the effect of real income when choosing whether to participate in loquat planting and focus on short-term effect in agricultural production.(2)In terms of the loquat planting participation behavior,the individual characteristics of farmers such as gender,age,education level and risk preference all passed the significance testing,which shows that they are significantly affect the loquat cultivation participation rate.The older,more educated and more risk preferred farmers are more likely to participate in loquat cultivation.Besides,family size has a negative effect on the participation of loquat cultivation,namely the smaller the size,the less likely are they to involve in loquat cultivation.In addition,among the agricultural operation characteristics,the income of 2012 and family arable area are through the significance test.They both have a positive effect on the participation rate of loquat planting.That is,the higher the income of farmers in the 2012 and the larger the scale of family cultivated land,the higher the participation rate of loquat cultivation.Additionally the less information they exchange,the less likely they are to participate in loquat cultivation.(3)From the impact(on income)of farmers' participation in loquat cultivation,participation in Loquat planting can effectively improve the farmers' income.And using the tendency score matching method to take the sample self-selection and endogenous problems into consideration,the calculation will draw this conclusion: ATT=8529.8,p-value<0.01.Thus we can see that the participation of farmers in the cultivation of loquat has a significant positive impact on the improvement of farmers' income.More concretely: because of the participation in loquat planting,farmers' income in 2017 will be increased by 8529.8 Yuan.Therefore,this paper puts forward these relevant policy recommendations:(1)Improve the insurance and subsidy policy to reduce the cost of farmers' participation in the cultivation of loquat.(2)Speed up land circulation and create conditions for large-scale loquat cultivation.(3)Strengthen the usefulness perception of farmers' participation in loquat cultivation.(4)Expand the access of farmers' agricultural cash crop industry development information to improve farmers' cognition level of loquat planting industry.
