With the deepening of global competition and the rapid development of science and technology,Chinese enterprises are constantly facing the pressure from global competitors.More and more enterprises choose strategic change to adapt to the new needs of development, but strategic change is not easy for enterprises. Not all businesses can make the change and survive and remain competitive. The reason is that many internal and external factors hinder enterprises from conducting strategic change. Therefore, how to promote strategic change becomes an issue worth studying in depth. This study focuses on how the dynamic knowledge management capability of an enterprise can help an enterprise update its knowledge stock under the circumstance of dynamic environment,so as to play a role in promoting the strategic change of the enterprise. In the existing research on strategic change,it is considered that the essence of strategic change is an organizational learning behavior. But organizational learning does not always enhance the adaptability of enterprises.Instead, proper organizational forgetting can help enterprises abandon useless knowledge, break strategic inertia and better promote the implementation of strategic change. However, previous studies have not explained how organizational forgetting acts on strategic change, and empirical studies are also lacking.Based on the theory of knowledge management, this study explores the role of organizational forgettingon strategic change from the perspective of absorptive capacity. This study combines theoretical analysis with empirical test.First of all, through reviewing literature regarding strategic change, absorption capacity, organizational forgetting and others, the research foundation is laid.Secondly, the theoretical model of the influence of organizational forgetting on strategic change is constructed, and the mediating effect of absorptive capacity is investigated, and relevant hypotheses are put forward. Finally, the empirical research method is used to analyze and verify the research hypothesis to explore the empirical results and to draw conclusions. The results show that :(1)absorptive capacity has a positive effect on strategic change, but the dimension of digestive capacity has no significant effect on strategic change;(2)organizational forgetting has a positive effect on absorptive capacity, and the effect of avoiding bad habits is better;(3)organizational forgetting has a positive effect on strategic change, but forgetting learning dimension has no significant effect on strategic change;(4)absorptive capacity plays a partial mediating role in the relationship between organizational forgetting and strategic change;(5)environmental dynamics plays a negative regulating role in the relationship between organizational forgetting and absorptive capacity, while it has no regulating role in the relationship between absorptive capacity and strategic change. This study, based on the perspective of dynamic knowledge management, explores the mechanism of how organizational forgetting and absorptive capacity influence strategic change, and enriches the theory of organizational forgetting and absorptive capacity, providing a basis for the research and application of active forgetting of internal knowledge and the shaping of absorptive capacity under the dynamic environment. In addition, there are many discussions on the motivation of enterprise strategic change, but there is a lack of research on how to effectively promote strategic change, especially from the perspective of how forgetting can promote strategic change. Therefore, this study makes up for the current research vacancy, and provides Chinese enterprises a reference of the practice of strategic decision-making.
