Urbanization is the only way to modernization,and scientific and technological innovation is the first driving force for high-quality development.They are the two major forces that constitute the sustainable development of China's economy and society.The Yangtze River Economic Belt runs through the three major regions of China's east,West and central regions,and is the first demonstration belt for the country to promote the construction of new urbanization and innovation-driven development.Taking the Yangtze River Economic Belt as a typical region as the research object,this paper deeply analyses the interaction effect and evolution law between urbanization and scientific and technological innovation,which is helpful to better explore the effective path to promote the coordinated development of urbanization and scientific and technological innovation,and It has important reference value for sustainable development.On the basis of literature review and theoretical reference,this paper uses system theory to comprehensively analyze the coupling and coordinating mechanism between urbanization and scientific and technological innovation,and constructs a comprehensive evaluation index system of urbanization from five dimensions: population urbanization,economic urbanization,ecological urbanization,spatial urbanization and social urbanization.The comprehensive evaluation index system of scientific and technological innovation is constructed from three dimensions: input,output and transformation of scientific and technological innovation innovation achievements.Based on these two systems,the evaluation index system of coupling coordination between urbanization and science and technology innovation is constructed;then,the comprehensive score of urbanization and science and technology innovation of 11 provinces and cities in the Yangtze River Economic Zone from 2008 to 2017 is calculated by using the method of entropy and comprehensive score;and then the coupling coordination degree of urbanization and science and technology innovation of 11 provinces and cities in the Yangtze River Economic Zone from 2008 to 2017 are measured by using the coupling coordination degree model.Then the comprehensive evaluation is carried out from the two dimensions of time and space.The conclusions are as follows:(1)Theoretical analysis shows that there is a complex non-linear relationship between urbanization and technological innovation.When the two systems are in harmony with each other,the two systems will produce "1 + 1 > 2" spillover effect;when the two systems are separated from each other,the synergy effect will be restricted.(2)The comprehensive scores of urbanization and scientific and technological innovation of 11 provinces and cities in the Yangtze River Economic Zone show an upward trend in time dimension,but there is still much room for improvement.In spatial dimension,the distribution of urbanization and scientific and technological innovation in the eastern section is higher than that in the middle and Western section,and the spatial differentiation tends to exp·and.(3)The overall situation of coordinated development between urbanization and scientific and technological innovation in the Yangtze River Economic Zone is good,and the coordination level has changed from primary coordination to intermediate coordination.In terms of time series evolution,the level of coupling coordination of 11 provinces and municipalities has gradually shifted from primary imbalance and primary coordination in 2008 to intermediate coordination and high-quality coordination in 2017,and the coordinated development of urbanization and scientific and technological innovation has increased significantly.In terms of spatial differentiation,the spatial distribution pattern of eastern region is better than that of central and Western region.(4)The coupling and coordination types of 11 provinces and municipalities in the Yangtze River Economic Zone are mainly synchronous development,but they fluctuate greatly between years.In terms of time series evolution,the number of synchronously developing provinces and municipalities decreases at first and then increases;the number of lagging provinces and municipalities with scientific and technological innovation decreases at first,then increases,and then decreases;and the number of lagging urbanization provinces and municipalities is basically less than one,with no significant evolution characteristics.In terms of spatial differentiation,the spatial distribution pattern of the eastern segment is better than that of the central and Western segments.(5)Coupled and coordinated development of urbanization and scientific and technological innovation is an important way to better promote the development of both.The policy suggestions are as follows: to coordinate the development of urbanization and scientific and technological innovation according to local conditions;to optimize the elements of scientific and technological innovation in cities and towns,to enhance their scientific and technological innovation capabilities;to actively build a comprehensive three-dimensional transport corridor in the Yangtze River Economic Zone,and to promote regional exchanges and cooperation.
