The Impact Of The Development Of China’s Producer Service On The Transformation And Upgrading Of Manufacturing

Along with the adjustment of the industrial structure in the process of economic development,service industry occupies a more important position.At the same time,improving the level of manufacturing products and services,transforming and upgrading the manufacturing industry is beneficial to deepening the supply-side structural reform and highlighting our manufacturing industry in the global value chain.Therefore,producer services play an important role in the upgrading of manufacturing industry.Firstly,this paper theoretically expounds the mechanism of producer services to promote the transforming and upgrading of manufacturing industry from three dimensions of industrial structure,production combination factors and value chain.Then,from the perspective of efficiency,based on the panel data of 31 provinces and municipalities(autonomous regions)in China from 2010 to 2017,this paper conducts an empirical study on the impact of producer services’ development on the production efficiency of manufacturing industry on the overall level,regional level and subdivided industry level.The empirical results show that:(1)on the overall level,the development of producer services in China can significantly promote the efficiency of manufacturing industry.(2)on the regional level,the development of producer services in the east and the mid-west can both improve the production efficiency of the manufacturing industry,but the effect is so different that the effect is greater in the east than in the mid-west.(3)on the level of subsectors,the transportation,warehousing and postal services have a relatively greater promoting effect on the manufacturing efficiency,while the financial industry,information services,scientific research and comprehensive technology services have less promoting effect on the manufacturing efficiency.(4)whether from the view of the overall level,regional lever or subsectors,the level of regional economic development is an important factor in manufacturing efficiency.The level of agglomeration of producer services and the level of education of those employees in manufacturing can positively promote manufacturing efficiency while the actually utilized foreign investment has little effect on the improvement of manufacturing efficiency in China.
