The postal service is an institution which has been part of our lives since 17th century, fulfilling its basic role of delivering consignments locally and internationally from one person to another. The postal service has also had non negligible political, cultural and economic effects on a country by ensuring the free flow of information, assuring national cohesion and pushing the infrastructure to develop. In the age of digitalization and internet, the postal service has been operating at loss, making its existence questionable. However, abolishing the postal service is out of the question as it is still tied to our everyday life. Thus,it has to find a way to adapt and survive in the digital era.In order to make the postal service profitable and efficient, the whole industry has beenliberalized in many countries to introduce competition,to enhance customer experience and to lower the cost. The logistics is the main core of the postal service and expanding its logistic offerings can have a positive effect on the consignment flow, delivery time and storage, thus making itself a reliable service provider for customers.Instead of being pushed out of the market, the postal service has all the assets and infrastructure to grasp the opportunity presented by e-commerce.Mobile apps, data collection, cloud computing and internet of things are the main tools for the postal service to innovate itself. This paper will discuss general structure of the postal market, its history and then will specifically concentrate on Mongolian postal market and opportunities for development. The Mongolian Postal Service's current state and strategy will be discussed.Different practices of different countries will be discussed in order to propose the developmental trends the Mongolian postal service can implement.
