As China is on its way building a moderately prosperous society in all respects,it has become an important research direction in the field of society to strengthen the construction of social security system and make the achievements of reform and development more equitable and benefit to all the people.Shandong Province is a major agricultural province of China, with an agricultural population of 49.53 million in 2018.In 2013,Shandong Province issued implementation guidelines, combining the new rural social endowment insurance(hereinafter referred to as "new-type rural insurance")system with the urban residents' social endowment insurance(hereinafter referred to as "urban residential insurance")system, and established the basic endowment insurance(hereinafter referred to as "residents' endowment insurance")system.Over the past seven years, the coverage rate of endowment insurance of rural residents in Shandong Province has been continuously improved, and people's sense of happiness and security has been continuously enhanced. However, there are still problems such as that farmers tend to choose low payment grade, don't know the policy quite well and so on.At the same time, with the deepening of urbanization, the trend of social transformation is more obvious.New changes have taken place in terms of the rural population structure and the concept of providing for the elderly. Therefore Shandong Province is facing some problems of providing for the aged farmers as a province with a large agricultural population. This paper mainly studies the status and controllable factors of the middle-aged rural residents' participation in the endowment insurance of urban and rural residents in Shandong Province. In this paper, through the use of literature analysis, questionnaire survey and descriptive statistics and other research methods, the research content is described in the following aspects: first,a brief overview of the research background of this paper, including domestic and foreign research results on farmers' participation in social endowment insurance and related influencing factors.Second, the definition of related concepts of "old-type agricultural insurance","new-type agricultural insurance" and "residents insurance" as a review of the evolution of the endowment insurance system of rural residents in recent years, and a brief introduction to the theoretical support of social equity theory, demand level theory, public goods theory, etc.Third,it analyzes the background of social transformation such as the development of new urbanization and aging population,as well as the current policy of urban and rural residents' endowment insurance policy of Shandong Province including its shortcomings.Fourth,on the basis of the above, this paper makes an empirical analysis of the status and influencing factors of the middle-aged farmers' participation in the endowmentinsurance of urban and rural residents in Shandong Province, analyzes the participation rate and payment grade, and studies the impact of individual characteristics, family characteristics and cognitive evaluation level of farmers on the participation behavior. After that, based on the empirical analysis and literature research, the paper puts forward some feasible suggestions to improve the endowment insurance system for urban and rural residents of Shandong Province.
