The Relationship Between Materialism And Work Motivation And Creativity Of Employees In Enterprises And Institutions And Its Management Countermeasures

With the rapid development of the market economy,it has become a common phenomenon for Chinese people to indulge in material comforts and show themselves with luxury,which stimulates the value called "materialism".Meanwhile,according to the development tendency of market economy,enterprises are relying more and more on innovation to gain competitive advantages because of the intensified competition.So that how to improve the creativity of employees has become the primary consideration for enterprises.The question about whether materialism could promote the creativity of employees has triggered the writer's thinking.More attention has been paid to the relationship between motivation and creativity of previous studies,but less on the relationship between materialism and creativity,as well as its psychological mechanism.Thus,the purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between materialism,breakthrough creativity,and progressive creativity,as well as the role of work motivation in this relationship.In the first study,the degree of materialism of 60 employees in enterprises was measured by questionnaire,and then 10 employees(5 materialists with highest score and 5 materialists with lowest score)were selected as subjects to be interviewed.So as to preliminarily explore the relationship between materialism,breakthrough creativity and incremental creativity.The results show that the materialists with higher score have more progressive creativity and more extrinsic motivation.The materialists with lower score have more intrinsic motivation.Based on the results of the first study,questionnaire method has been used in the second study to select 567 employees of enterprises and public institutions as subjects randomly.The purpose is to further explore the relationship between materialism,creativity and the mediating role of work motivation.The results show that,(1)materialism can positively predict breakthrough creativity,and extrinsic motivation is a partial mediator in this relationship.(2)materialism can positively predict progressive creativity,in which extrinsic motivation plays an intermediary role.To sum up,this study found that materialistic values can promote creativity through the mediating effect of extrinsic work motivation,which not only can enrich the research on materialism and creativity,but also can provide certain management enlightenment for the employees development of enterprises and public institutions.
