The Impact Of Import Trade On Enterprise Innovation

Import trade is an important channel for international technology diffusion.In recent years,China has repeatedly stressed the need to actively expand imports.However,due to the multiple impact mechanism between import and enterprise innovation,the impact between them is uncertain,especially in the case of frequent trade disputes,the export of advanced technology is strictly limited,and the possibility of import inhibiting enterprise innovation is increasing.Import trade may run counter to strategic objectives such as industrial structure upgrading and innovation driven strategy.In the case that import can not guarantee that all enterprises can benefit,what kind of enterprise benefits becomes an important standard to judge the rationality of import.Therefore,from the perspective of productivity,this paper combs the impact of productivity on the import innovation effect of enterprises according to two key paths of import Innovation: international technology diffusion and domestic market competition.At the same time,with the help of China's industrial enterprise database,enterprise patent database and customs import and export trade database from 2000 to 2013,the paper constructs alternative variables of import value at the product level and industry level of enterprises,and systematically analyzes the heterogeneous impact of import on the innovation of Chinese enterprises.It is found that the impact of import on enterprise innovation depends on the productivity level of the enterprise.The higher the productivity of the enterprise,the more obvious the promotion effect of import on innovation,and this promotion effect only appears in the enterprises whose productivity exceeds the median level.And the mechanism test found that high productivity enterprises have more comparative advantages in absorbing imported technology spillovers and coping with import competition.In addition,China is in an important transition period of economic development,and the current economic and trade environment is also complex and changeable.According to the test of distinguishing the source countries of imports,there is no significant difference in the impact of imports from different R & D input source countries on enterprise innovation.China's technology dependence on advanced industrialized countries is not strong.According to the test of distinguishing the level of intellectual property protection,intellectual property protection enlarges the promotion of imports on innovation of high productivity enterprises and the inhibition of innovation of low productivity enterprises,Only high productivity enterprises can fully absorb the institutional dividend brought by promoting the protection of intellectual property rights;according to the test of differentiated trade mode,the adjustment effect of productivity is the most significant in mixed trade enterprises,and for the general trade enterprises with the lowest productivity,import also plays an incentive role in innovation,while the innovation activities of processing trade enterprises can not benefit from import and continue The implementation of differential preferential policies for processing trade may damage the promotion of import trade to enterprise innovation.
