Reasearch Of The Influence Of China's Trade Liberalization On On-the-job Training

With China establishing more Free-Trade-Areas,holding the first China International Import Expo in Shanghai as well as introducing measures cutting taxes and fees subjectively,the pace of liberalization is more quicker than before and China's trade liberalization goes to a high level.At present,more enterprises choose to join trade liberalization and share its benefits,which improves plants' productivity.At the same time,lots of researchers find that the on-the-job training provided by entrprises is also beneficial to its productivity.Based on these findings,is there a positive relationship between trade liberalization and on-the-job training?On the basis of micro-level data from China Industry Business Performance Data and WITS database,this article empirically investigates the influence of trade liberalization on on-the-job training.By reading a large number of literature at home and abroad,we conclude probable mechanisms through which trade liberalization influences on-the-job training.What's more,we use related data from China Industry Business Performance Data and WITS database during 2004-2007 period and analyze the influence of trade liberalization on on-the-job training.The result shows that trade liberalization markedly boost both probability and amount of training offered by company.After fix sample selection bias,this conclusion is still tenable,and market competition effects,factor substitution effects as well as technological advance effects are possbile mechanisms.The regression of sub-sample shows that this influence is heterogeneous:Firstly,compared with SOEs and private companies,training provided by foreign enterprises is more affected by decrease of intermediate tariff;secondly,in contrast to inland companies,the reduction of intermediate tariff has greater effects than final product tarrif reduction on coastal enterprises;lastly,plants abundant in capital are affected more by intermediate tariff reduction while low capital-intensity companies are opposite to the former.In the end,robustness test shows this facilitation is robust and reliable.
