Appealed by the government, more and more enterprises begin to attach great importance to the entrepreneurship and innovation activities, hoping to activate organizational vitality and thus stand out from the daily increasingly fierce competition. From the perspective of knowledges used, corporate innovation can be divided into exploration innovation and exploitation innovation. The former helps enterprises improve long-term abilities while the latter helps enterprises gain current and shortterm benefits.Constrained by corporate resources and because of the relative disadvantages of exploration innovation like having greater risk and unpredictable returns, scholars believe that in real life enterprises will always overemphasize exploitation innovation and neglect exploration innovation. This inclination will strengthen corporate path dependence and turn into organizational inertia, making enterprises fall into the “success trap” and being harmful to the long-term development of the enterprises under quickly changing environment. Therefore, scholars in innovation field turn to emphasize the importance of ambidexterity of innovation, which means develop exploration innovation and exploitation innovation at the same time in a balanced way.According to the status quo of enterprises, the thesis points out that the key to accomplish innovation ambidexterity is to reduce the general preference of exploitation innovation in the enterprises, and thus the whole thesis is all about the discussion of specific mechanism to reduce corporate preference of exploitation innovation and the boundary condition of the mechanism. When it comes to how to reduce preference of exploitation innovation, the thesis notices the importance role of entrepreneurial orientation in the corporate strategy level.Because of its pursuit of innovativeness,risk-taking and proactiveness, entrepreneurial orientation can help enterprises cultivate more positive attitude towards entrepreneurship and innovation activities, and pay more attention to increase the input for exploration innovation, which can finally help reduce preference of exploitation innovation. In this path, based on the institutional perspective, the thesis points out that under the background of China's transition economy, enterprises should take the government seriously and build high-quality political networking.Because political networking can substitute the imperfect formal economic and legal institutions and provide enterprises with resources and protection.Meanwhile, according to the industry's life cycle theory, the thesis suggests enterprises to pay attention to the moderation effect of industrial growth in the direct and indirect paths mentioned above, and thus can do better in collecting industrial information.By gaining accurate market signals, enterprises can make correct decisions about corporate strategy and resource distribution.Based on the above research ideas inspired by literature review, the thesis puts forward totally 6 hypotheses about the main effect of entrepreneurial orientation and preference for exploitation innovation, the mediation of political networking, the moderation and moderated mediation of industrial growth.Using enterprises in silicon alley,Qinhuai,Nanjing,Jiangsu as sample, the thesis sent out 583 questionnaires and received 545 of them. After deleting the invalid one based on specific principles, the thesis gets 346 valid questionnaires, indicating that the valid response rate is 63.49%.Under the help of statistics processing tools like SPSS and Mplus, the thesis conducts empirical analysis like correlation analysis, stepwise regression and bootstrapping to test hypotheses. Results from data process support all the 6 hypotheses and draw the following conclusions:(1)entrepreneurial orientation is negatively related to preference for exploitation innovation;(2)political networking fully mediates the negative relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and preference for exploitation innovation;(3)industrial growth positively moderates the positive relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and political networking;(4)industrial growth positively moderates the indirect relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and preference for exploitation innovation through political networking.Based on the conclusions above, the thesis concludes the theoretical and practical significances of the research. The study supplements an additional perspective and provides brand new thinking to the innovation ambidexterity field, and conducts a complete research to discuss the factor in strategy level to reduce preference for exploitation innovation, the specific mechanism, and boundary condition of the mechanism, enrich the studies in entrepreneurial orientation, political networking and industrial growth field. Moreover, enterprises can get some management inspirations from this study like pay attention to reduce preference for exploitation innovation to achieve a balance between exploration innovation and exploitation innovation, emphasize the strategic role of entrepreneurial orientation, strive to build close political network, improve information collecting ability to get reliable information for guiding the corporate development. Finally, the thesis put forward the research limitations in terms of definition of new variable, method to collect data, sample distribution, dimensions of entrepreneurial orientation and so on.To overcome these limitations, the thesis suggests the future studies to collect data from different periods,to combine interviews and questionnaire survey,to pay attention to the independent contributions of the three dimensions of entrepreneurial orientation, and to find out more other mechanisms to reduce preference for exploitation innovation based on various management theories.
