Abstract/Summary:
To date over 555 American colleges and universities have committed to achieving climate neutrality. A crucial first step in this process is conducting a greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory. Multiple emissions inventory calculators are in use, which may hamper consistency and comparability between institutions. This paper presents the findings of three GHG emissions inventories prepared for the University of Wyoming (UW). The only significant differences among the calculated emissions were those due to air travel. Overall, the findings were not significantly different, which suggests that GHG emissions inventories may be comparable among institutions even when different inventory calculators are used.;To achieve the stated goal of climate neutrality as soon as possible, colleges and universities may participate in the international voluntary carbon market to offset emissions that cannot be eliminated through emissions reductions.
