Abstract/Summary:
This work presents an estimate in increased efficiency of the power system, due to the reduction of electric losses at the transmission and distribution levels. It further explores the environmental impact due to generation displacement using solar thermal water heaters.; We performed an economic analysis of these improvements in power system operation including an estimate of the reduction in fuel and energy cost adjustment, in {dollar}/kW*h, for residential customers using SWTH.; Simulations proved that there is a considerable amount of generation displacement and power loss reduction due to SWTH. The system's reliability, reserve and spinning reserve are enhanced by means of this short term alternative to generation station construction.; Economic analysis demonstrated that there are benefits for the utility and clients. Residential customers could experience a considerable reduction in their monthly bills. Atmospheric emissions could also be reduced. This alternative should be considered for the benefits shown throughout this work.
