Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this project was to develop an instructor's manual that can be used to implement an adapted hiking program in south Orange County for adults with Down syndrome. This manual can be used to start a hiking program that can be implemented into the Parks and Recreation Departments of the following cities of south Orange County: Aliso Viejo, San Clemente, Dana Point, Laguna Beach, Mission Viejo, Lake Forest, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Hills, Rancho Santa Margarita, and San Juan Capistrano. This project informs one of the importance of exercise for adults with disabilities and the lack of programs available to for this specific population. Furthermore, this project provides alternative teaching methods that could be used to teach outdoor recreational activities for adults with disabilities.
