Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study was to explore the link between conscious leadership, employee engagement, and organizational learning at a school district as their leaders coped with the challenges in engaging the administration and staff to collectively raise the students' levels of achievement. The growing literature on employee engagement recognizes that leadership, employee engagement, and ultimately organizational success are inextricably linked. The findings of this research suggested that the leadership approach modeled by the executive leaders in this school district engendered feelings of being valued, heard, and trusted, and as such fostered teamwork, accountability and engagement amongst the staff. The conclusions suggested that conscious leadership was practiced by the executive leaders and was more effective to enhance the level of employee engagement and the organization's capacity to learn than the previous administration's command and control approach.
