Abstract/Summary:
With the influx of computer-mediated communication (CMC) use interpersonal communication is changing. Various approaches were reviewed on CMC and interpersonal communication. Specifically, research focused on CMC and interpersonal communication theory, possible effects of CMC use, and college students use of computer communication technology. A qualitative study was performed using a multi-method approach. This study integrates a focus group, content analysis and observation of residential college student CMC use. The purpose of this study was to explore how CMC is changing the methods of communication among college students. This study also sought to understand college students interpersonal relationship-building using CMC.
