This thesis rethinks and reinterprets normative hotel typologies to respond to a global culture of nomadic business persons. The majority of corporations see travel as a key business too and although online business communication is becoming popular, research has proven that there is still no substitute for face to face communication. However, most nomadic business persons spend their time in relative social isolation. This condition exists for a number of reasons, one being that travelers are hesitant to venture beyond the confines of the hotel environment. As a design response, this thesis proposes a design of a hotel in Midtown Manhattan in New York City that brings the city's day to day life into the hotel. The idea is to distribute the public program at all scales throughout the building and thereby enriching the nomadic worker's experience. |
