The quality of reuse water produced by an integrated MBR-RO (membrane bioreactor and reverse osmosis) system was examined in terms of microbial control, disinfection by-products (DBPs) and nitrate. This study demonstrated that high quality water could be produced from municipal wastewater using an integrated MBR-RO system. The reuse water meets drinking water standards for trihalomethanes (THM), haloacetic acids (HAA), chlorite, total coliform, viruses, and nitrate/nitrite. The reuse water also meets California Title 22 water reuse regulations for non-potable applications including irrigation, and cooling, and could be used in groundwater recharge applications. In addition, the reuse water may be a suitable supplement for a drinking water supply. |
