Abstract/Summary:
The roots of American economic development are based in agriculture. This study will investigate new means to use this agricultural history and develop a tourism industry as a feasible approach to spur economic development. A number of cities, both large and small, in the United States are increasingly losing their tax base while simultaneously facing increased costs of services. This creates a strain on fiscal resources in local governments requiring a judicious allocation of available resources. At the same time, areas in a stagnant economy attempt to revitalize their fiscal and economic condition by enticing new investments into the local economy. This investment increases not only local municipal economy but also quality of life, not only for the existing population but also for future businesses and their employees. Opportunities to utilize agriculture for economic growth and tourism are especially pertinent to Western New York. (Abstract shortened by UMI.).
