Abstract/Summary:
A history of trade magazine Elevator World (EW) was conducted to exemplify the publication's success and contributions to the industry it represents from a communications research perspective. EW has served as the main source of communication for the international elevator and escalator transportation industry for more than 60 years, and still serves as the industry's only international publication. Having been established by a technical industry professional, the magazine has credibility in its field, which adds to the publication's social responsibility as a trade magazine. With print media's current declining condition, research pertaining to successful publications is crucial to print journalism's future. Results indicate that with the help of EW, the elevator industry has grown substantially since the magazine's inception. In addition, dozens of other regional elevator magazines exist throughout the world. Research also shows that EW has played a pivotal role in the establishment of safety foundations, a plethora of educational programs and numerous large industry associations.
