Although the concept of built space and its relationship to people is of paramount import to design education, very little research has actually been done to examine how design school facilities relate to and serve the needs of their occupants. The purpose of this study was to understand how a building designed to accommodate a design faculty functioned and to identify the factors that most influenced occupants' levels of satisfaction through the administration of a Post-occupancy Evaluation (POE). The study took place at the department of Landscape Architecture at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Ultuna, Sweden during the Fall of 2000. Results from this POE identified strengths and weaknesses of the school facilities and also illuminated some of the factors that make a school of design and the needs of the people who attend them unique.
