Abstract/Summary:
"When Walls Speak: An exhibition about women in street art" is a proposal of an exhibit featuring female street artists from all over the world revealing the cultural influence and creating a space for street art to be displayed, appreciated and created.;The exhibition design proposal aims to show that through an exhibition individuals can be exposed to a new emerging form of art that was underrepresented and underappreciated. This exhibition topic is new and unique due to street art's short-lived existence, and its previous negative association. Through this exhibit we would be able to showcase street art from different cultures, the un-told stories found on walls with a unifying theme, whereby the influence of culture on the execution of the art it evident while showing the similarity in the issues they all face. The target audience for this exhibit is the DC area locals, museum visitors along with art professionals and enthusiasts. With the historic National Bank of Washington as its site the exhibit would embody the natural habitat of such art pieces with a perfect central location. The design of the exhibit would highlighting world issues spoken through street art worldwide open to the personal interpretation of the visitor, it also creates a space for local street artists to tell their stories on the allocated walls.
