This thesis investigates the application of a Voltage Source Inverter based controller for the regulation of voltage and frequency of a stand-alone self-excited induction generator. The steady state and dynamic system equations are formulated and the system behavior is studied. Based on the model, the design of the VSI-based controller is obtained. The design and rating of the controller with different DC side configurations is derived for the system model.;An experimental generator system with the proposed controller has been built. In order to verify theoretical results and the technical feasibility of the VSI-based controller, various tests are conducted. The test results demonstrate the excellent performance of the proposed concept. |
