Abstract/Summary:
The thesis is directed at the design, generation and computerized simulation of two versions of face-gear drives: (i) offset face-gear drives with a spur pinion, and (ii) face-gear drives with an involute helical worm with crossed and intersected axes (hybrid gear drives).; The thesis covers the following new ideas and approaches of investigation: (a) New method of localization of bearing contact in face-gear drives with intersected and crossed axes based on application of a modified tooth surface of the pinion. (b) Design and investigation of face-gear drives with crossed axes. (c) New developments in theory of gearing: (i) Extension of the concept of axes of meshing and its application for determination of tooth pointing of the offset face gear. (ii) Extension and application of the differential geometry theory for determination of singularities of the complex gear surfaces. (d) Design and investigation of a new type of the face-gear drive (hybrid gear drive) formed by an involute worm with different pressure angles and a face gear generated by an oversized or a conventional hob. The proposed invention of a hybrid gear drive is registered at the University of Illinois at Chicago.; The contents of the thesis also cover analytical approaches for determination of contacting surfaces, avoidance of tooth pointing, localization of the bearing contact by application of the double-crowned worm, computerized simulation of meshing and contact for investigation of influence of misalignment on the shift of contact and transmission errors and determination of the contacting ellipses of the gear surfaces.
