Abstract/Summary:
This qualitative study in the middle school focused on informational technology and its influence on classroom instruction, its purpose in the classroom, and preparation of students of today for jobs of tomorrow. In the middle school studied, teachers had certain ideologies of informational technology and its potential ramifications not only for themselves, but for the students as well. Some saw the challenges and the marvels that came and were exhilarated; some only saw the certainty of change and its uncertain outcomes and were apprehensive. All of us recognize the vital role informational technology plays in bringing us to where we stand now. But our views of what informational technology means to us as a society differ primarily because of the way we define such technology, our views on who controls how technology is used in education, and our knowledge about teaching.
