Abstract/Summary:
This best practices report was written on the behalf of Building Blocks - Re-imagining Neighborhood Spaces Together, a coalition of Sacramento nonprofit organizations that work in areas of food access, green space preservation, urban agriculture, and community building. Building Blocks, and its member organizations, want to pursue work in vacant lot redevelopment in the underserved urban neighborhoods in Sacramento to create park equity, foster community health and safety, and promote food security through urban agriculture projects. The following report provides analysis of successful urban land use projects in California, defines key functions of Community Land Trusts, and makes recommendations for future land use projects given the current social and political climate of Sacramento and the organizational requirements to undertake similar projects.
