Research On Relationship Between Characteristics Of Farm Households And Mainly Vacant Land In Rural Areas

It is not optimistic for China with the current problem of land vacant.The problem is gradually intensified in rural areas with the main type of homestead an arable land in recent years.Researching and resolving rural land problems contributes to the rational allocation of rural land resources,and could improve the efficiency of land use.Eight villages of Yueyang city,Changsha city,Zhuzhou city,and Western Hunan area were under the survey visits in the form of questionnaire investigation.Based on the survey data,possible factors contributing to vacant farmland,villages in the countryside were explored by establishing logistic regression models with household characteristics as the main object,and the correlation between household characteristics and vacant farmland and villages were studied.Results are as follow:1.The phenomenon of homestead and farmland vacant existed in the research area.There are differences in the age of the household,the percentage of farmed members in family,the educational level,the average per capita homestead area and average per capita housing area in the rural home which have the problem of homestead vacant.There are differences in average age of farmed members,the percentage of farmed members in family,per capita annual income,per capita tillage,per capita housing area and other types of agricultural land area in the rural home which have the problem of land vacant.2.farmers' income and agricultural land types have significant effects on cultivated land vacant(Sig.=0.034,0.041,P < 0.05): the higher farmers' income,the greater possibility of farmland vacant,especially farmers have other land kinds as fruit,forestry,fishing.The larger area,The greater possibility cultivated land vacant.Farmers' annual income,educational level and percentage of farmed members in family have significant effects on land vacant(Sig.=0.015,0.036,0.026,P<0.05): the higher education,the less possibility homestead vacant,the more farming members in the family,the greater possibility homestead vacant.In addition,farmer's geographical and economic factors also have an important influence on use of farm land and homestead.This study can provide references to address rural housing land vacant problem in the process of new style urbanization.
