In recent years,China's packaging industry has developed vigorously, accompanied by huge environmental pollution and energy consumption. With the popularization and implementation of household waste classification and "double carbon" policy,Chinese residents attach more importance to green packaging.Among many food categories, children's confectionery packaging has high requirements for protection, safety, and fun,so it is greatly restricted for sustainable packaging design. This research combines the current market situation and sustainable design methods and principles in exploration and aim to explore innovative design of children's confectionery packaging based on the 4R theory of sustainable design.First of all,the development path of "4R theory" and the development status and design direction of environment-friendly children's confectionery packaging are analyzed, and the children's confectionery packaging design under "4R theory" is defined.Secondly, market research is carried out through desktop research and expert interview. At the macro level, through the research and analysis of the status quo of garbage classification and recycling in China and the 4R design cases of food packaging in domestic and foreign markets, the key elements that fit for packaging recycling systeem and the advantages and disadvantages of existing packaging in the market are sorted out.At the micro level, this paper identified the problems existing in the current children's confectionery packaging: materials having strong dependence on plastic, the application scope of degradable materials is limited, the pack structure is not reusable, and the recycling system coordination is weak.Thirdly, consumer research on children's confectionery packaging based on 4R theory.By means of questionnaire and interviews, consumers' understanding of children's confectionery packaging and the concept of "sustainability" were summarized, and the cognition of 4R design principle of children's confectionery packaging was explored. Finally, the current pain points and core needs of consumers were summarized.Fourthly, design strategy for the 4R design of children's confectionery packaging is raised.(1)For the Reduce Principle,we should maximize plastic reduction in material application and enhance the perceptibility of plastic reduction in packaging;(2)For the Replace and Reuse Principle,we should improve the application of recyclable and degradable materials in material selection and enhance the playability of reusable packaging design;(3)For the Recycle Principle,it is necessary to enhance the perception of packaging size, the recognition of recycling information, and the fun in recycling education.Fifth, based on preliminary research and innovative 4R design strategy, the children's confectionery gift box of "Environment-Friendly Little Cute Animals" was designed, and the satisfaction test and evaluation of the design were conducted through stakeholder interviews and Likert scales, and the design optimization direction was proposed accordingly. To sum up,the sustainable 4R theory was applied to the design practice of children's confectionery packaging, the design strategy was reconstructed, the theoretical system of 4R food packaging design was formed, and the research dimension of children's confectionery packaging branch was enriched. The innovation of this thesis is to transfer the sustainable vision to the field of children's confectionery packaging, which is seldom paid attention to.With 4R theory,a series of reusable and interesting children's confectionery packaging is designed. The design endods the previously one-time disposable food packaging with a certain environmental education function and the significance of promoting parent-child interaction.
