Under the background that "sustainable development" has become the common agenda of human in the 21 st century, and "green" has become the key word of national construction,it has become the trend and hot spot of the current architectural design industry to make "green building" return to the building itself and make the building form and structure system adapt to the environment and resources in the regional climate.Passive design is an effective way to solve the problem of building energy consumption.Grey space,as a typical space form with passive meaning, has thick shadows and flowing air, which can not only play a good shading effect, but also create a comfortable and good feeling for people’s activities. At the same time, the grey space increases the elevation changes and enriches the modeling language. However,in hot summer and cold winter areas of China, the passive role and value of grey space have not been fully recognized, understood and applied.More users use technical equipment to artificially adjust the indoor and outdoor environment for comfort, and the building energy consumption is relatively high.Based on the investigation and research on the grey space of public buildings in changzhutan area, this paper finds that the creation of grey space based on climate adaptability can adopt a variety of techniques such as aerial, concave, cantilever, open gallery, frame and cavity. From the perspective of passive design, the creation of grey space can be considered from three aspects: shading, ventilation and microenvironment improvement. From the perspective of architectural shading,it is possible to set the creation strategy of cantilevering or recessing in the position where urgent shading is needed by extending the roof or adding shading components. From the perspective of natural ventilation of the building, the creative strategy of open gallery or cavity can be adopted. In addition,it can also be combined with overhead plant configuration to locally improve the micro-climate environment and create a more comfortable architectural functional space. In this paper, the main representation of grey space in traditional architecture is sorted out,the experience of grey space in the design of climate adaptability of excellent public buildings is summarized, and the creative strategies of grey space in climate adaptability are summarized,so as to provide reference for the architectural design practice in hot summer and cold winter areas in China.
