Research On Critical Success Factors Of Prefabricated EPC Projects

Prefabricated buildings meet the requirements of sustainability,and can accelerate the transformation of the construction industry in C hina.Therefore,they have developed rapidly in C hina in recent years.However,traditional management mode such as DBB,which is commonly used in the construction industry in China,can’t fit in with the needs of the rapid development of prefabricated buildings.EPC engineering general contracting has the characteristics of systematization,organization and refinement,and is very compatible with the prefabricated construction.Therefore,Chinese government actively encourages the use of EPC mode in the process of facilitating the implementation of prefabricated building projects.However,due to the short time for the implementation of the prefabricated EPC projects in C hina,the specific practical application is not mature enough,the industry and academia ha ven’t done in-depth research in this area,the number and the management level of prefabricated EPC projects is relatively low,and the effect of implementation isn’t ideal.Therefore,this research aims to analyze and identify the critical success factors of prefabricated EPC projects,which will help the project stakeholders to clarify the areas that need to be focused on,thereby optimizing the allocation of resources and facilating the successful implementation of the project.Based on the support of stakeholder theory and sustainable development theory and other related theories,this research first clarified the 8 success criteria of the prefabricated EPC project from the perspectives of the project itself and the stakeholders,and adopted the literature research,case analysis and expert interviews have identified 24 success factors and divided them into four categories : "policy environment","market environment","technical methods",and "management collaboration";based on the success factor list and success criteria obtained,a survey questionnaire was designed and distributed to relevant practitioners in the construction industry.and recycled 211 valid questionnaires,and the reliability and validity of the questionnaires were analyzed to test the reliability of the data;based on literature research and possible impact mechanism analysis,research hypotheses were proposed and the theoretical model,construct the structural equation model of the success factors of the prefabricated EPC project,cond uct hypothesis testing,and discuss the results of the model operation,it was found that the four major success factors in order of impact effect from high to low are policy environment,management collaboration,market environment,and technical methods.The 9 critical success factors are as follows: a complete standard and normative system,a sound industry management system,the attention of relevant local government departments,the resource integration capabilities of the general contractor,an experienced component supplier,a clear and efficient EPC organizational structure,the government’s commitment to sustainability,the policy incentive measures are in place,and the risk control of the general contractor is in place;finally,from four aspects: policy environment,management collaboration,market environment and technical methods,from the point of the government and the general contractor,corresponding countermeasures are proposed to accelerate the successful implementation of the prefabricated EPC projects.This research has made a useful exploration of the critical success factors of prefabricated EPC projects.The research results will help all stakeholders of the project to accurately grasp the critical success factors in the management and control process of promoting the successful implementation of prefabricated EPC projects,and take targeted measures.It has certain guiding significance to promote the successful implementation and further promotion of prefabricated EPC projects.
