In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the Hexi Corridor building formed a unique local style under the background of relatively scarce economic resources and cultural integration. Some studies have revealed some significant distinctive features of Hexi architecture and other regional architecture. In addition,it is necessary to further study the differences and correlations among the basic or typical characteristics of Hexi buildings, including the timber frames, structure joints and decorative Dougong. This paper focuses on the research gap and discusses the above three aspects, taking nearly 300 existing wood buildings from Ming Dynasty to the Republic of China in Hexi Corridors as samples.First of all, induction and classification. On the basis of the overall positioning of the frame type, the timber frames of Hexi buildings are further classified. From the perspective of structural logic, the structure joints and component combinations are classified. From the view of decoration, the origin of Huaban daigong is studied, and the decoratives techniques such as outline, engraving and color painting are classified.Secondly,on the basis of classification, quantitative zoning and staging statistics are carried out on these three aspects, and the statistical results are analyzed, discussed and explained to clarify the evolution of the timber frames, the simplification of structural joints and the development of the decoration of the Huaban daigong. Finally,in addition to the differences and correlations within the buildings of Hexi corridor, these three aspects are compared with the official buildings and neighborhood buildings to further clarify the features of Hexi buildings. The study found that the evolution of the buildings in the Hexi Corridor is in line with the development trend of traditional Chinese architecture in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, but they have their own characteristics of local style. The characteristics are summarized as frugality and magnificence, hybridity and individuality, freedom and restriction.
