A Study On The Fusion Of Guo Moruo’s Poetic Theory And His Translation Thoughts Under Poetics

As one of the founders of Chinese New Poetry, Guo Moruo created a lot ofexcellent poems and formed his own theory and style on poetry. He paid specialattention to the nature of poetry that indicated the expression of emotions, as well asthe absolute free form for poetry creation. During his long-term practice oftranslation, he put forward a certain quantities of ideas on translation, particularly onpoetry translation，such as the flavor translation and the two-step translation. As aprominent poet and prolific translator, Guo dealt with poetry creation and poetrytranslation at the same time during his whole life. As a result, his poems andtranslation works showed many signs in connection. This thesis endeavored todiscuss the fusion in his poetic theory and translation thoughts in the light of poetics.According to the theory of poetics, both the poet’s poetic theory and his translationthoughts belonged to the system of poetics which indicated that his poetics thoughtswas related to his ideas on translation.This thesis laid the foundation on poetics, chiefly adopting Lefevere’s relevanttheory on the manipulation power of poetics exerted on translation, and probed intothe interrelations between Guo Moruo’s poetic theory and translation thoughts. Bymeans of analyzing a variety of specific examples, the thesis explained the signs offusion between his poetic theory and translation thoughts, which mainly reflected inhis elaboration of emotion, expression, creativity and the selection of theme, andexpounded with Guo’s poetics or the relevant theory of poetics..
