A Comparative Study Of New Poetic Theory Between Guo Moruo And Wen Yiduo

In the 20th century history of China new poetry, Guo Moruo and Wen Yiduo were outstanding poetics and new poetry theorists. They made many significant achievements, especially in poetry creation and poetic theory development. In the early history of new poetry, as literary critics, both of them have paid more attention to new poetic theory exploration.The new poetic theories based on their own works, with the development of Chinese and foreign poetry creation's positive and negative experience. The new poetic theories which were put forward by Guo Moruo and Wen Yiduo have very strong specific aim and direct sense to early stage of new poetry and also have important implications for the new poetry of China. Although there are big disagreements about their new poetic theories, they were still greatly valued as good poets with many famous poems. By analyzing, their different theories of poetry still have some conjunction points in some ways. Their theories have many contributions not only to certain poetic period but also to modern Chinese literature. This thesis aims to explore the advantages and values of their theories by making a comparative study of new poetic theory between Guo Moruo and Wen Yiduo. Hope the results can provide some theory and practical guideline for the modern verses.This thesis including the following parts:In the introduction part, the research topic of this thesis is provided first. Then the research problems to confine the domain of exploration of this thesis are put forward. The scope of this study fixed on the materials between 1920s and 1940s. If materials which beyond this scope but can help solve the problems also would be used. Lastly, a brief introduction of achievement and status of Guo Moruo and Wen Yiduo in the development of new poetry are offered. A review of situation of study at home and abroad is followed.In the first part, on new poetry creation concept, Guo Moruo claims writing poetry,but Wen Yiduo's claims doing poetry. Based on the different poetry pursuit of beauty, Their contributions to poetry are different, (1) The contribution from poetry poet: Revolution Created Style and Cultural Creation Style.(2) With the development of new poetry material choice. Through two ways to explore the source of good poetry and the healthy road of the new poetry's development.For the second part of this thesis, the deep reason of the difference is offered. Guo Moruo and Wen Yiduo's poetries have different styles and it originated from the ways they express feelings to claim different vitality. As a kind of cultural psychology, it is difficult to change the individual aesthetic interest. How did the poem which has the highest honor express the poet's feelings, overt or reserved? In fact, good poetry can product by this two ways as long as the artistic features of the poetry are not violated and the degree is well mastered.As the third part, this thesis discusses the background of the new poetry in order to explore the outer form of the poetry as traditional Chinese style and modem free style. The second generation of new poets is represented by Guo Moruo and Wen Yiduo. They did many contributions in the process of the new poetry took place of the old one. During the unification of form and essence of the poetry, Guo Moruo and Wen Yiduo have co-created this landmark of the history.For the last part, the theoretical value and influence of their new poetic theories are offered. A vague description of the present condition of the poetry field and a brief analysis of the problems lied in the new poetry are followed.
