A Report On Chinese-English Translation Of Theories And Practices Of Self-Driving Vehicle(Excerpt)

In recent years,as the self-driving vehicle can change people’s travel way,it has gradually become the research frontier in auto industry with the development of artificial intelligence.At present,the global auto industry is undergoing rapid development,self-driving vehicle will definitely be the commanding point in a new round of technological competition,so the research of this field is of vital significance for the development of domestic technology.The report is based on the translation practice of Chapter 1 Introduction to Self-Driving System and Chapter 3 Localization in Self-Driving Vehicle from the book Theories and Practices of Self-driving Vehicle.It is written by the light of "Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation" translation framework proposed by Li Changshuan in his Meaning and Expression:Annotated Texts in Chinese-English Translation.The report is divided into four chapters.Chapter 1 is the task description,which briefly introduces the source text,the features of the source text and the significance of the task.Chapter 2 is the process description,including translation preparations,translation process and quality control.The third chapter is the case analysis.In this chapter,the translator briefly introduces"Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation" framework,analyzes the cases based on the framework and proposes solutions.In comprehension,the translator comprehends the source text by virtue of the background information and parallel texts.In expression,the translator analyzes the cases from the translation of separate constructions,translation of Chinese run-on sentences and the adjustment of word order.When translating the separate construction,the translator renders it into non-restrictive attributive clause;when translating the run-on sentences,the translator analyzes the logical relationship,finds out the semantic focus,then translates them into long sentences to conform to the habits of target readers;in terms of the adjustment of word order,the translator uses passive voice and adjusts the position of adverbial modifier.In adaption,the translator analyzes from omission,addition and the balance between adaptation and accuracy.The translator mainly omits category nouns and adds subjects when translating the non-subject sentences.Chapter 4 is translation summary including the gains and experience the translator obtains from translation,in addition,the translator reflects the problems occurred in the process and puts forward solutions and suggestion to the problems."Comprehension,expression and adaptation" translation framework enlightens the translator and guides her to do translation.Through this translation practice,the translator accumulates lots of extralinguistic knowledge,improves her translation skills and grasps translation methods,laying a solid foundation for translation in the future.
