The Comparative Research Of "Yinyi" Between Xuanying And Huilin About Dabo Niepan Jing

Zhongjing Yinyi,compiled by Xuanying and Yiqie Jingyinyi,written by Huilin,both of them lived in the Tang Dynasty(referred to as Xuanying Yinyi and Huilin Yinyi respectively)are the representative works of the sound and meaning of Buddhist scriptures.Both of them are aimed at clearing up the Buddhist scriptures,clarifying the sound and the meaning.They take the Buddhist scriptures as the reflection object,collect the difficult words in the Buddhist scriptures,which have a high research value in the fields of linguistics,philology and so on.This paper takes the Dabo Niepan Jing,classic works of Mahayana,as an example to analyze the similarities and differences in the process of their annotation.Among them,Huilin’s interpretation of the Dabo Niepan Jing was transcribed from the Yungong Yinyi,who wrote one volume of the sound and meaning of the forty volumes of the Dabo Niepan Jing,but it does not exist today.Huilin transcribed the deleted complement of its sound and meanning and coexists with the original order of Yungong.Therefore,Huilin Yinyi are named in this paper,and Yungong Yinyi are not mentioned any more.According to statistics,about Dabo Niepan Jing,Xuanying Yinyi includes 408 words,Huilin Yinyi includes 992 words.On the basis of the statistics,with the help of computer-aided technology,establishing datebase and use the method of combining linguistics and philology to make a comparative analysis from the four aspects of the word head,phonetic annotation,interpretation,and cited books.Through comparison,it is found that there are some differences between Xuanying and Huilin.First of all,in the comparison of word head,Huilin collected more abundant items and types of words,which improved the collection of Buddhist related items.And in the choice of words,they also have the phenomenon of different words,such as error,derivation and so on.Secondly,in the phonology,both of them are mainly based on thefanqie method,but Huilin is also supported by the direct phonetic method and the tone method.In addition,there are also the cases of different phonetics and rhymes between them,reflecting the phonetic phenomena such as mixed use of light and heavy labial sounds,different syllables in the same rhyme system and so on.Then,in the comparison of interpretation,Huilin deleted or added on the basis of Xuanying’s interpretation,such as deleting meanings unrelated to the scriptures and adding interpreted words,adding meaning items and so on to make the interpretation content more suitable for the scripture meaning.Finally in the comparison of cited books,both of them are cited by Jing,Shi,Zi,Ji.Compared with Xuanying,Huilin delete or add cited books.It also analyzes the quotation of Yu Pian in Huilin Yinyi and finds there are existing many misquotations.There are still some deficiencies in the paper,such as the diachronic comparison work is not as expected,the handling of individual materials needs to be considered,and so on,which are all areas to be improved in the future.
