The Study On Variant Forms Of Chinese Characters In XuanYing YiqiejingYinyi

The study of variant forms of Chinese character is the key work of Chinese characters' classification and standardization. So far, there is not a definition of Chinese character' variant forms is acknowledged by all the scholars. The paper adopts the definition, which is founded under the guidance of the theory of Chinese characters' formation and combining the forms and the usages of Chinese characters together, that is the variant forms of Chinese character are the characters which are formed for the same word, which have the same function to express the word, or the different scripts of the same character.Xuan Ying Yiqiejing Yinyi is formed in the Tang dynasty, which has a big collection of variant forms of Chinese characters of Weijin to Tang dynasty. These materials are valuable in the study of Chinese characters. Guided by the theory of Chinese characters' formation, the paper classifies the variant forms of Chinese characters into two categories. One is the characters which are formed for the same word, which have the same function to express the word; the other is the different scripts of the same character. As for the former we analysis their direct components and summarize the law of their formation. Guided by the method of historical comparison, the analysis of different style of handwriting and the psychology and habitation of people' writing, we classify the latter further and summarize the law of people' writing.
