| With the development of rural economy,the construction of village and town in China has taken place great changes that have never been seen in history.More and more attention has been paid to the development mode and exploration of village and town with Chinese characteristics around the world.However,there are few books translated systematically and published in other countries.The translation material is the chapter three(excerpt)of Theoretical Exploration and Practice of Constructing Green Village and Town in China written by Professor Wang Xiaoming’s team,from Huazhong University of Science and Technology.This book is their latest research and is of great value in the construction of village and town.The third chapter mainly analyzes many aspects of the planning for constructing green village and town,taking the economic and social development planning at Yanhe village and the green development planning in Fushan town as examples.A lot of proper nouns including terms and culture–loaded words and the typical Chinese sentence pattern in this book bring challenges to translator’s translation.In terms of linguistic features and the clients’ requirements,the translator,guided by Translation Variation Theory proposed by Professor Huang Zhonglian,mainly illustrates four challenges encountered in this translation practice and corresponding translation strategies.The translator mainly chooses the translation strategies of “supplement” and“paraphrase” to translate culture–loaded words.As for sentences that are redundant,scattered or are lack of subject,the translator mainly adopts translation strategies of“deletion”,“compression”,“rewriting”,“supplement”,“combination” and “edition”.This translation report demonstrates the importance of the Translation Variation Theory during translation practice and is expected to serve as reference for translating texts with similar linguistic features in the future.Besides,translating this book can introduce the theory and practice of constructing green village and town in China to the world and enhance the communication and cooperation between China and other countries. |
