This is a translation report guided by functional equivalence theory. The original translation text is selected from Aboriginal Australia, published by the University of Queensland Press and co-authored by Colin Burke,Elinor Burke and Bill Edward. The translator chooses Chapter 11 as the translation material, which presents the history, development and related economic policies of Aboriginal Australia's economy. The source text belongs to informative text which is logic and rigorous. To present the feature, there are numerous long sentences in the text.Because of the complicated sentence elements, adequate information and tightly logical relations, how to translate these sentences into accurate Chinese is the difficulty of the task.Consequently, the translator sorts out these long sentences and translates them with linear translation, combination and division under the guidance of functional equivalence theory. The translator hopes that readers can gain a deep understanding about the society and culture of Australia through the translation and also wishes that some strategies proposed in this report can provide references for similar texts.
