A Report On C-E Translation Of Excerpts From Articles Of Association Of The Midea Group Co.,Ltd.

The translation of the articles of association plays a vital role in a company’s external communication and investment attraction activities.However,most of the few researches on the C-E translation of the articles of association make a broad yet non-in-depth study of vocabulary,syntax and stylistic features without specific and targeted analyses.This report focuses on the C-E translation of technical terms and long and complex sentences in Chapter Four(Shareholder and Shareholders’ General Meetings)of Articles of Association of Midea Group Co.,Ltd.in 2018.Based on the analysis the features of legal language and principles for legal translation,language features of source text and the translation process,the report analyzes the difficulties in terms of technical terms and long and complex sentences.Technical terms include equivalent terms,specialized terms and non-equivalent terms.Parallel texts are used to translate equivalent terms.Comparative analysis is made to further analyze the expressions of non-equivalent terms in the parallel text to find the most appropriate expression.For specialized terms,contextual combination is used by finding the specific meaning of common words to maintain the text features.Conversion of sentence components,addition,and readjustment of information focus are adopted to deal with the difficulties confronted in translating long and complex sentences.The application of conversion is achieved by using phrases or clauses or even parenthesis while addition mainly focuses on the addition of implied information and subordinating conjunctions.Readjustment of information focus consists of the change of subject-predicate relation and the distribution of modifiers in the sentences.Guided by the principles of accuracy,preciseness,cross-culture and consistency of technical terms,the translation practice is expected to be conducive to the C-E translation of technical terms and long and complex sentences in articles of association.
