A Report On The Escort Interpreting Of International Solar Energy Exhibition

This report is based on author’s interpretation of the 14th China（Jinan）International Solar Energy Utilization Conference&Supplementary Multi-energy Exhibition held on April 2^nd,2019.As an escort interpreter,the author was responsible for helping two overseas purchasers from Nepal negotiate with Chinese Exhibitors.In light of interpreter’s subjective consciousness and Schema Theory,the report analyzes the strategies in dealing with interpreting problems.The report is divided into five chapters.The first chapter gives a brief introduction to the background information of the task.The second chapter describes the characteristics of escort interpreting and builds the theoretical framework of this report,including interpreter’s subjectivity and Schema Theory.The third chapter describes the interpreting processes,including pre-task preparation,on-site interpreting and post-task summary.The fourth chapter,as a case study,analyzes how the author solved the interpreting problems in light of the relevant theories.Based on the relevance of escort interpreting,interpreter’s subjectivity and Schema Theory,it elaborates on the application of five strategies to the interpretation,including addition,omission,modification,inquiry,and inference.In addition,it analyzes the problems and flaws in the interpreting practice,such as information loss,misinterpretation and disfluency.Several solutions to these problems are proposed such as building linguistic schemata,making extra-linguistic preparation and improving short-term memory.The last chapter summarizes the whole practice.
