| The report is based on the translation of “Marxism and Language,” an essay in Critical Companion to Contemporary Marxism. In light of Schema Theory, the translator adopts appropriate translating strategies and makes a case study of the translation. The source text is characterized by philosophical terms, complex and passive sentences with a formal, concise and logical style. These features cause many problems in the translation process, such as inaccurate translation of polysemy and prepositions at the lexical level, improper handling of complex and passive sentences at the syntactic level and inconsistency of style at the stylistic level. From the perspective of Schema Theory, some strategies can be employed to deal with the above problems.Language schema helps the translator with the shifting of word class in the translation of certain prepositions and nouns as well as division and reorganization in the translation of long and complex sentences.Content schema helps the translator choose the accurate meaning of polysemy according to the content of the text and add annotations to help readers have a better understanding of the target text.Stylistic schema contributes to the improvement of colloquial expressions and the use of passive sentences in the target language to maintain a formal, logical, and concise style. It is hoped that the report can provide enlightenment for the translation of philosophical texts. |
