A Study Of Liangshan Yi People Torch Festival From The Ritual View Of Communication

The Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture is located in the southwestern part of China.It is the place where the largest number of Yi people live in China.Many splendid Yi cultures have been derived here,and the traditional Yi Torch Festival is one of them.The festival of ethnic minorities has profound historical significance and cultural connotation,and is an important form of enhancing the cohesiveness of ethnic minorities.The Torch Festival is the most important festival of the Yi ethnic group throughout the year.It is not only a group activity of the Yi ethnic group,but also a ceremonial exhibition.Behavior,with the development of society,the Torch Festival has evolved from the original group entertainment activities into a large-scale "official and private" communication ceremony.Then,in the current globalization period when population is intensifying and culture is accelerating,what kind of effect does Torch Festival as a ritual of communication have on the cultural identity of the Yi people,and what practical significance it has on the social life of the Yi people,this is the issue that this article focuses on.Under this premise,this article chooses the Yi Torch Festival held by Liangshan in 2019 as the starting point,and takes the ritual view of communication proposed by the famous American communication scientist James Carey as the theoretical perspective,through in-depth participatory observation and depth The interview explores the shallow,middle,and deep aspects of the Liangshan Yi Torch Festival transmission ceremony,further understanding and examining the influence of the Torch Festival,a minority communication ceremony,on the life of the Yi people,so as to analyze the practical significance of the Torch Festival on Yi production and life Interpretation of the construction and maintenance of the entire cultural identity.Kerry ’s concept of communication rituals proposes that communication does not focus on the transmission of information in physical space,but on the maintenance of society in time.Communication builds an orderly and meaningful cultural world.Therefore,through research,this article finds that the spread of festivals and rituals of ethnic minorities has an important role in promoting and maintaining the cultural identity of ethnic minorities.In the period when human culture is intertwined byglobalization,the cultural identity of ethnic minorities has not declined.Instead,it has been strengthened.The Yi Torch Festival is an important carrier for the Yi to find their own cultural affiliation and resist cultural erosion.The ritual spread of the Torch Festival constructs the cultural identity of the Yi ethnic group from three aspects of symbol,identity and value identity,and awakens the Yi ethnic group Cultural consciousness,thus maintaining the ethnic culture of the entire Yi people,is of great practical significance to the life and society of the Yi people.In addition to the introduction and conclusion,this article is mainly composed of four parts.The first part is an introduction to the Liangshan Yi Torch Festival.The first section mainly introduces the origin of the torch festival through the Yi’s worship of fire and the myths and legends;the second section explains the general process and content of the torch festival through the author’s field survey;Reviewing the changes and development of the torch festival ceremony,trying to sort out the "previous life" and "present life" of the torch festival and a detailed introduction to the 2019 torch festival.The second part is based on the "symbolic process in which reality is produced,maintained,modified,and transformed" proposed by Kerry.Starting from the shallow symbols,we explore the torch festival as a communication ritual,which special symbols are included in it.How to show their differences.It mainly analyzes three types of symbols: space-time,clothing and language;In the third part,the ceremony is a metaphor of communication.The sacredness and performance of the torch festival are analyzed to analyze the thoughts and emotions of the Yi values ? ? contained in the torch festival.At the same time,the performance,Interpretation of the three major functions of inheritance and identification,to analyze how the torch festival ritual realizes the middle-level communication metaphor through symbols.The fourth part,combined with the theory of cultural identity,analyzes the effect and maintenance of the ritual spread of the Torch Festival on the cultural identity of the Yi people.The first section mainly analyzes the cultural memory of the Yi people contained in the torch festival ceremony.From the cultural memory to the cultural community,it leads to the construction of the cultural community by the ritual spread.The second section analyzes from three aspects: cultural symbols,cultural identity,and cultural value.The construction of ritual communication on cultural identity;thethird section,based on the author’s field investigation,presents a realistic description of the cultural identity of ritual communication on torch festival,and analyzes the practical significance of ritual communication on torch festival.
