Representation And Application Of Light And Shadow In Watercolor Landscape Paintings

The artistic language of light and shadow has a long history.From the beginning,it was used to highlight religious colors,and then to express the sense of space and stereo,and finally to endow the artists with creativity and spirituality.It can be seen that the artists’ exploration and pursuit of light and shadow art have never stopped.Light and shadow are an intuitive visual element.Whether it is the creation of colors,the contrast between light and dark,or the treatment of white space,it is one of the creative elements commonly used by painters,it is deeply loved by watercolor painters at home and abroad,favored and created a variety of charming light and shadow watercolor landscape painting.This paper briefly introduces the importance of light and shadow in the western painting history and its characteristics.By appreciation of the treatment of light and shadow in the watercolor paintings of Australian watercolor painter Joseph Zbukvic,China watercolor painters Zhao Yunlong and Li Shuicheng,initially feel the charm and beauty of light and shadow in watercolor landscape painting,and put forward the main forming factors of light and shadow in watercolor landscape painting,and then analyze and learn the painting skills of light and shadow in Mel Stabin’s works.The last part of this paper is combined with my graduation creation,and analyzes my expression and application of light and shadow,as well as my thinking on creation.Learning is a process of continuous practice,from the selection of subjects,to the study of techniques and colors,and then to the final creation,what I got in the whole process is not only a work,but also a spirit of exploration of art.
