This thesis is composed of three parts: source text, target text and translation report. The source text is Chapter10&11 selected from Translating across Sensory and Linguistic Borders: Intersemiotic Journeys between Media. The two papers use intersemiotic translation as a vehicle to examine two art translating projects and try to innovate Jackbson’s definition of intersemiotic translation. In the translation report, the author makes an introduction to the translation task, process and theoretical basis. The translator summarizes five dimensions of Venuti’s foreignization: source text selection, language form, language content, stylistic and cultural features, and translation regulation. In case analysis, the author focuses on how to apply the second and third dimension and choose specific methods to realize foreignization. Then, the author concludes that foreignization is a relatively macro theoretical guidance, which can be realized by many flexible techniques such as word-to-word translation, zero translation, etc. The author tries to call for discussing Venuti’s theory from a macro level namely cultural or academic exchange, and eliminating the stereotype that foreignization only means using novel, confusing language in literary translation. It is proved that at least the first, second and third dimension of foreignization can be applied in the translation of academic text. And the author concludes some translation experience like how to choose specific foreignization dimension or translation method in actual translation context, which would be meaningful for further practical research.
